May CalFresh Awareness Month

May is CalFresh Awareness Month

Every May, Alameda County proudly joins communities across California in celebrating CalFresh Awareness Month. Since 2013, this month has served as an opportunity to highlight the importance of CalFresh, expand public understanding, and connect eligible residents with the food assistance they need. Through the combined efforts of the California Department of Social Services, the Alameda County Social Services Agency, the Alameda County Community Food Bank, and our many community partners, we remain committed to supporting a healthier, food‑secure community.

This year’s theme, “CalFresh Works,” underscores CalFresh’s ability to reduce hunger while honoring the hard‑working individuals and families who rely on CalFresh to help make ends meet.

By enrolling in CalFresh, you not only stretch your monthly food budget but also gain access to great discounts and helpful services such as:

  • Market Match, where CalFresh EBT cardholders can get more money to purchase fruits and vegetables at participating farmers’ markets
  • Discounted Amazon Prime membership
  • Comcast affordable high-speed internet
  • PG&E monthly bill discounts
  • Discounted Bay Area transportation with Clipper START
  • Discounted admission to participating museums
  • And more!

Now is a great time to apply for CalFresh!
